Monday, November 30

Calories for Monday ended up being 1493, 190g protein, 66g carbs and 48g fat. I have hunger to speak of and lovnig it, my body is really getting used to IFing and I think the key thing is consistency, eat at the same time as often as you can. I’m feeling very energetic, happy and satisfied.
Gym is going great and I feel strong. I haven’t lost any strength. Hammered shoulders, triceps and abs yesterday! Busy gym, but since its only 3.5 weeks left of normal training times for me its okay. Nothing can annoy me lately so I just go with it.

Saturday I’m going with Jess to watch Paranormal, scary scary :D and on Sunday its Christmas lunch with a few friends at the peppertree restaurant. It looks great! Its located in North Adelaide and its just so pretty there. Its been a while since I was out eating on a restaurant!.

I’m starting to feel a bit nervous about resigning now… scary… but exciting!

Sunday, November 29

Form check Sunday morning! (massive) 59.5kg and feeling good.
I am getting harder, I can see it in my legs (always the first thing... not very female of me...)
Friday we got a severe thunder warning
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds with gusts in excess of 90 km/h and possible large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Maitland, Murray Bridge, Clare and Robe.
So I decided to head home instead of the gym, it was pouring down, humongous raindrops, when driving home. Spend the night in the couch with a blanket watching dvds. Very wintery like!
Saturday, did house work, went to the gym and had a great session, sneaked a bit with the 100kg deads as I was supposed to work on the form… anyway… Was going to go to the movies but it was just way to windy and wet so we decided not to… Sunday I made a chocolate cake and I found these little adorable sugar figurines. SOOOO CUTE! Went to Thea’s birthday celebration and driving there it was pouring down, but at their house it was sunny, windy, but sunny! (drove home later that night and it started poring down about half way home, apparently it had been raining all day) it was a great BBQ, fantastic food (Richies potato salad is to die for!)
Calories for Friday and Saturday I met (don’t have the numbers with me) Sunday, I’m not sure but my the food was good ;)

Chocolate cake
50g Dark chocolate
300ml Flour
2 pinches salt
100ml Cocoa
2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
500ml Sugar
4 eggs
225g butter

Put the oven at 175 degrees, butter and breadcrumb a form. Melt 175g of butter and let it cool off. Whip the eggs with the sugar. Add vanilla sugar, cocoa, salt and flour. Mix the butter in and pour in your form. Put it in the oven, the middle should be sticky.
Topping, melt 50g of chocolate and the rest of the butter (50g) on low heat. Pour the mix over the cake. The cake has to be cold when you do this.(I got the little sugar figurines at the shop, sooo cute)

Thursday, November 26

Sister wants a nail mat for Chrissy (it’s a big thing in Sweden) and she sent me a link to this site http://www.shaktimattan.se/HurAnvanderJagShakti.aspx (Swe) on how to use it. Looking at the pictures it does look comfortable? And the benefits are good apparently it will remove pain, stress relief, lower your blood pressure, increase metabolism and remove some inflammation. It does look good on paper…

Got a call from a UK based consultant representative yesterday and he might have some jobs for me. Very exciting! And great pay too! I’m keeping my fingers crossed! It does feel odd doing interviews over the phone but hey, I’m easy! He said he’ll call me tonight! I did tell him I have interviews when I get home and I’m quite keen on one of them (Maria you know it LOL)

Feeling good (did a sneak peak on the weight and Its looking good) I do feel great! Training is going good and no hunger at all yesterday. My last meal was 400g of minced chicken, 60 of mozzarella, mushrooms and onions… oh filled me up alright lol it soo good that you can go to the chicken shop and buy chicken breast fillets and they mince it for you! How good is that!!!
My mood is great! (got told of for laughing to loud at work LOL grumpy man working on the other side of the office) Good sleep 9 weeks and a few days till I get to leave, its Friday and life couldn’t be better!

This will be the last post for the weekend as I’m not refilling my internet until the 2nd (wanna time it so I’m internet covered for all the time that’s left for as little money as possible)
I hope you have a great weekend!!!

Calories for Thursday, 1388, 184g protein, 49g Carbs and 48g Fat (bit low yes I know but I just wasnt hungry - bet you never thought Id say that huh)
Wednesday calories 1490, 166g protein, 46g carbs and 65g fat.
Great sleep! Ive been sleeping really well the last week (might have something to do with more carbs and that’s a major plus) Great mood today! feels like Friday lol the humidity is like 80% at the moment so its like being up in QLD…
Me and Izzy met the dog this morning (her name is Panda) and she has completely accepter her, I’m amazed, it’s the first big dog she has accepted in a long time. With accepted I mean kisses and friendly and accepting her sniffing etc. I’m thrilled! So slowly and repeatedly introducing (with complementary lollies) works!

On the weekend we (me and Iz) are going to see Tessa to celebrate her birthday. Hopefully the weather will be good and we can go to the beach for a swim! Will be great seeing her, its been to long!

One of the guy’s from a blog that I’m following has a fireplace on the wall in his apartment and its such a lovely thing and soo cozy, I’m very tempted to get one. He got his at Bauhaus for a bit over 4000Skr and its just awesome! Its available in white! I’m keen to go get a look at it when I get home!! Real Keen! (picture is from his blog - http://www.andreazengstrom.se/

http://www.summadayze.com/

Diet dinner.. chicken burger with mozzarella cheese and tomato salad all with crackled pepper... loooove pepper...

FYI for you who are interested in reading a good diet article/ebook I love this guy and he has a good healthy way of looking on dieting and training.

Tuesday, November 24

Tuesday calories 1481, 197g Protein, 67g Carbs and 42g of fat.
Well the day started out good, had work, the day went on without any major dramas, went to change and realised I had taken a sports bra that smelled stale quite strongly (how I missed that packing my bag is crazy) anyway, got my stuff on and got out of work and into the car. I do my post workout drink in the car on the way to the gym. I got my shaker and water out and as I was mixing I bumped the shaker (yes I know I shouldnt do it in the car) and tada, the water does not go into the shaker it ends up in my lap, o jolly I’m sitting in a puddle of water…. I have my dark purple pants on, I fumbly finish my shake, grab the dog towel and try to take some water off my seat (yes still driving). I sort of manage but you can imagine what my pants looks like. Determined to go to the gym I take my sweater of an tie it around my bum, the same sweater I was planning on hiding some of that off smell of ma bra… lol Smelling of dog/stale clothing and with wet pants I manage to do a leg session, did good tho :)

Today if feel good, happy and content! I was a little bit hungry last night, cause the fats was a bit low but its sort of hard to go higher cause the carbs are higher. Not hungry now tho and that’s good. Had a great sleep although some odd dreams, about my apartment (who doesn’t have any lifts in the main building) I did dream that my apartment had 2 lifts and that random people had access.. really odd…
A study verifying (again) why you should keep your protein intake during a diet high to keep those hard earned muscle.

PURPOSE:: To examine the influence of dietary protein on lean body mass loss and performance during short-term hypoenergetic weight loss in athletes.

METHODS:: In a parallel design, 20 healthy, young resistance trained athletes were examined for energy expenditure for one week and fed a mixed diet (15% protein, 100% energy) in the second week, followed by a hypoenergetic diet (60% of the habitual energy intake), containing either 15% (~1.0g.kg) protein (control group, n=10; CP) or 35% (~2.3 g.kg) protein (high protein group, n=10; HP) for two weeks. Subjects continued their habitual training throughout the study. Total, lean body and fat mass, performance (squat jump, maximal isometric leg extension, one repetition maximum bench press, muscle endurance bench press and 30 sec wingate test) and fasting blood samples (glucose, non esterified fatty acids (NEFA), glycerol, urea, cortisol, free testosterone, free IGF-1 and growth hormone) and psychological measures were examined at the end of each of the four weeks.

RESULTS:: Total (-3.0 +/- 0.4 kg and -1.5 +/- 0.3 kg for the CP and HP, respectively, p=0.036) and lean body mass loss (-1.6 +/- 0.3 kg and -0.3 +/- 0.3 kg, p=0.006) were significantly larger in the CP compared to the HP. Fat loss, performance and most blood parameters were not influenced by the diet. Urea was higher in HP and NEFA and urea showed a group*time interaction. Fatigue ratings and 'worse than normal' scores on the DALDA were higher in HP.

CONCLUSION:: These results indicate that ~2.3 g.kg-1 or ~35% protein was significantly superior to ~1.0 g.kg-1 or ~15% energy protein for maintenance of lean body mass in healthy young athletes during short-term, hypoenergetic weight loss.

Monday, November 23

I  kept my calories at maintenance yesterday so I am steering clear of this cold and get back into it again. I am feeling good today and me and Izzy had a great walk. Crispy sunny weather! Perfect temperature and Izzy got to say hello to a mini her. Such a cute girl! The guy who got her was really nice to, its great meeting random nice people here and there! Izzy got a bit sick of me talking so she showed what an exceptionally misbehaved dog she was, jumping around talking mewwwwwwffff meeeeaffffffffff and wanting to leave. LOL
Anyway, diet and training is back on today! keen as!
Today's meal plan is, salmon and salad for lunch, super pump + aminos (pre wo) and aminos (post wo), oats and egg whites when i get home and a big chicken burger with broccoli, spinach and cheese.
Watched the latest big bang theory and it such a funny tv-series, I just can’t stop laughing. I guess the nerd jokes really hits home.
I did some washing the other night and now all my clothes smell funny (way annoying), its like I left them in the bloody washing machine for to long, smell stale, I didn’t however, I guess the ventilation wasn’t to good so now I have to do it all over again… phew…

The best shake ever
15g ICE protein (Chocolate)
15g GTE protein (Creamy Vanilla)
50g Cottage cheese
5g Cocoa
Ice cubes
1-2g Xantam gum
Calories 177, 32g Protein, 5.3g carbs and 1.6g fat.

Mix and enjoy!
Ive been internetless (forgot to refill) and sick this weekend. I haven’t bothered with much in ways of dieting. (couldn’t have cared less) been sleeping and watching dvds and not doing anything. Ex was/is sick too. Do feel better today! Still have a bit of a headache tho but nothing major. Weight has been pretty standstill so no surprise there.
Im not doing a refill either for obvious reasons and I have decided to increase the carbs in the form of more fibrous veggies and a bit of oats after gym. I reckon my refill day on Monday had a bit to do with how the week ended up being and I really don’t feel like doing that again. That means protein will go down a little and fats as well.

I do have some terrific news, mum has signed the contract on my apartment! Im sooo happy about this! Its very exciting!!! I hope that you all have had a great weekend and enjoyed life!

Thursday, November 19

After a morning walk in a stupidly high humidity (might as well have been swimming) with fat flies (millions) trying to eat me and wouldn’t give up regardless of how much swatting I was performing and the pressure of everything is unbearable. Not to mention I didn’t get any sleep cause the thunder kept waking me up… I’m thrilled to announce that Aunty flo has arrived. And that means that weight tomorrow will be up regardless of this week. (nasty belly pains too) thank god its Friday… I am not happy… gosh… this week has been a week from hell…
Didnt manage a full gym session today. The aircon at the gym was tired and it was very cloggy, after 40 minutes I was dying! I managed my normal weights but Ill head to the gym tomorrow and do chest/biceps and on Saturday Ill hit the hammys. Midnight is supposed to bring some cooler weather (thank you) and that will make life a lot easier...
Calories for today ended up being 1593 210g protein, 24g Carbs and 72g fat. I think I need to increase my fibrous veggies tho (and with that some carbs) cause my belly needs it I think ehm
Cant wait for the coldish rainy weekend! Might even get some xmas shopping done :p

Wednesday, November 18

Wednesday Kcal 1530, 202g protein, 21g Carbs and 70g of fat.
Didn’t feel like going to the gym, well normally on leg day I don’t feel like going to the gym. Im not sure how I ended up having muscly legs cause this is the way its always been… went anyway and had a good session (read managed the same weights as normal) Squats, Plie(Sumo) Squats, extensions. Calf presses and seated calf presses. It was warm and stuffy!
Went home and watched an episode of legend of the seeker. (average) had a good nights sleep and I feel normal today. I certainly hope that this is a one off thing as I’m a bit scared that this whole ordeal has been because of the re-feed day… in that case I will certainly move it or skip it altogether… well see..
Woke up this morning with a slight sore throat and a stuffy nose. However I do feel better now. I put it down to the air-conditioned… today’s weather will be 43.. o jolly lol Not much else is going on, work, train eat sleep pretty much… and saving money… at least trying to.

Tuesday, November 17

I had a great sleep, over 10 hours, still feel tired but not dead tired! Heading to gym today for sure and then I have to move the lawn as we are getting rain and a bit of colder weather! Sooo good!!!!!!!! I’m not a big fan of 40+ days… especially not when the humidity is hight (thunder warnings for Thursday and Friday)
Diet is going well I do like having the last meal around 6-7 as it sort of takes the focus of snacking /eating in front of the TV way, when you have your last meal around 9 its easy to snack on it in front of the TV and that associates eating with TV and then whenever you watch TV you get cravings.

Associative eating is such an easy thing to do, I remember reading somewhere that when this woman was a kid she always got a chocolate bar every time she went to the gas station with her parents, so in adult life she got cravings every time they went to the gas station… hard to resist then wouldn’t it be…

I got word yesterday that the papers for my apartment that I signed a couple of weeks ago have finally arrived! I’m stoked! Its on the way!!!!!! I’m so happy about that! I am so longing for going home that’s its not funny, even had a dream about it last night haha about telling work and everyone’s reactions.

From kollo –
In truth we do not know the relative risk/benefits of giving large amounts of inorganic nitrates to humans. We know that vegetarians (who eat larger amounts of nitrate) have reduced incidence of cancer and vascular disease, and on average live longer than those who eat meat. We believe that nitrate may be a major reason for the beneficial effects of a high vegetable intake, such as reducing blood pressure, protecting the stomach from ulceration, preventing vascular damage, and preventing infection (4). Bryan and colleagues (3) have recently pointed out that the influential "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension" (DASH) diet recommended to hypertensive patients exceeds the WHO ADI for inorganic nitrate by 550%. At the same time, as Derave and Taes (2) point out, it is possible that certain combinations of inorganic nitrate and nitrosatable compounds could be harmful, and that certain individuals, such as those with Barrett's esophagus (8), may be particularly at risk.

We should be aware that there is some slight evidence of risk, but there is also increasing evidence that more nitrate in our diet may be good for us.

http://jap.physiology.org/cgi/conten...7/5/1667?rss=1

Nitrate high food is spinach and beetroot :D So keep those up in your diet and you might be doing yourself some good!
Tuesday Calories 1432, 193,5g protein, 10.5g carbs and 67g fat. (including the last meal to be eaten soon) Off to bed after that, Im struggling to stay awake, fingers crossed Ill get a whole nights sleep!
A quick note about the training, I start with a few warmup sets, keep to the basics and I keep my reps to 5-6 as well as throw in an excercise of 8-10's reps as well. To keep my strenght up and muscle loss at a minimum (and yes i do love lifting heavy ;) )

Im also shifting the gym sessions this week as there is no way my head can go to the gym today.... hopefully Ill get a proper sleep tonight and feel up for it tomorrow.
I’m actually feeling good body wise, not bloated, worn or hungry or anything odd. Just sleep deprived like H** and yes still a bit grumpy but that’s just my head… I’m hoping this was a one off thing and that I wont have this every Monday night cause in that case I’m going to have to move load day to a Friday or Saturday cause its going to be painful…

Monday, November 16

effin eff! I fell asleep at 8.30 and woke up 2 hours later and thats all the sleep i got last night. Sooo tired and grumpy today... mullenhu

Diet week and Monday carb-day review.
Monday morning, not exactly hungry but a bit off the beat so to speak. Nothing major, got some work so I kept a tad bit busy for once, such a relief as time actually moved :D
Lunch, yum! big wrap, loads of greens and cheese. Felt very full, 30-45 minutes after lunch, wow, heartbeat up, heat up and got tired LOL.
2pm Ive been craving some shapes (baked crisp like flavoured snack pieces) so I got some from the vending machine.
4pm hours later i went to the gym, had a rocking session! Shoulders, abs and triceps! Pumped!!! My veins on the base of my fingers even shows LOL
Anyway, went home and had Kellogs K and light milk OMG that is soooooo tasty, insanely so! YUMYUMYUMCRUNCHCRUNCH
Finished the meal off with a wrap with eggwhites super light cheese (not super tasty but okay). So full right now and very warm.
I still have a bit of oats to eat (didnt think that I would say this but phew... thats going to be pushing it) Missed my salmon and cheese, but Im very motivated now and my body feels good. I have a feeling I will sleep good tonight.
So thats week one of the diet (5.5weeks to go) and I think this is my style of dieting.
If I lose weight this weekend then ill probably bring the carbs up a little next Monday or overall calories, Ill read a bit more and have a think, however the advice/reading I have done is that you should go either maintenance or +500 calories when carbing up depending on how lean you are.
Ive even read somewhere (cant remember where) where the advice was 10g carbs per bw, thats 600 g of carbs... plus your always going to be eating some fats and protein with that... as a comparison, today's calories will end up at 2084, 113g protein, 35g of fat and 308 gram of carbs. I dont think I can physically eat double the carbs that I have eaten today unless I eat jelly beans... but I prefer not to... I guess I can stretch the eating window a bit.
I must say it does feel wrong eating this much when dieting... It will show next Saturday I guess :D

Goshhhhhhhhhhhh I look forward to hopping to bed but its only 6.30 so a bit early even for me :p

Sunday, November 15

Good Morning!
Nice crisp morning walk and today is carb load day. The plan is wrap for lunch (will miss my salmon dearly) with cheese and vegetables, post and pre workout drink as normal and then kellogs K with milk some porridge and finish off with wraps. LOL If I'm  not full after that then I dont know...
Decided to take a roadtrip today and drove down to Middleton, stopped at a wildlife park and took some photos! Been wondering around outside for 2 hours and i sure can feel it in my skin even tho I put on sunscreen like 3 times...
Hungry today and feeling it. But hey, re-feed tomorrow, hopefully that will make life easier...
Kcal 1521, 197g protein, 28g carbs and 60g fat.

Saturday, November 14

Today I over did my goal with about 150 calories, ah well :) That extra shake was worth it... Been taking it very easy today, still feel off... tomorrow will be worse, there is supposedly a change coming and that means the time before will be stuffy as..
1635 Kcal, 215g protein, 14g carbs and 79g fat.

Did shop for my carb up/load day on Monday and this is what i got. I will be quite interesting to see how my body responds...

Some pictures from my walk this morning

( I have figured out why the trees are losing their outer skin - tag removal)

Quick update before I crash on the couch :) Hot and sticky today and I feel very off. But thats fine, I have zipp zero nada more musts today! I have done food shopping, dog food shopping and even a walk this morning. Anyway, weigh-in this morning put my weight at 60kg, so thats 1 kg loss in 4 days, I felt really thuirsty so its a fair bit of fluids even tho I thought I wasn't going to lose that much first week. If I lose another kg next week ill bring the kcal up but for now ill leave it. Feel good (not counting the laziness and off feeling of the heat) and not hungry at all.
Stay cool!

Friday, November 13

Hammys and chest did work okay today, did only go up to 80 kg deads tho but the hammy curls I went heavier than before :D
Just had my peanutbutter mix with a massive nice ice cold shake!
Kalories for today 1556, 214g protein, 17g carbs and 68g fat. Yes a bit high on protein but it doesnt matter, met the calories. I just needed ice cold nice shakes to cool me down on this 40 degree day... very full now and its the couch for tonight and a good nights sleep! Have a great night!
I think that Friday 3.30-3.55 is the longest minutes on earth!
Nellimite is homesick today and ewy 11.5 w left before I leave this place.

Still bored so playing with photoediting :)

Thursday, November 12

Happy Friday the 13th

Woke up this morning and had a missed call! One of my girlfriends from Sweden had called :D I called her back and it was sooooooo good speaking to her! Fantastic! Made my morning! Didn’t help my homesickness tho just made me wanting to go home even more…

I did get a short sleep lol I cant believe this… and I have a dilemma, sleep in tomorrow but not be able to walk Izzy… since it gets hot really early. Might drive down to victor harbour and walk her there and take some more photos.. well see…

Today is chest and hamstrings (not the best combo I have realised, but well see how I go)
Cant sleep and not tired but should be... hmmm lucky its Thursday :D Izzy keeps giving me the evil eye... wanting me to turn off the heat lol She even laid in a puddle in the backyard (outlet for the A/C)and she's miss cleanliness

Back and Biceps today went great! Strong!
Lats pulldowns of 90kg, dumbbell rows of 70lbs per dumbbell (oh yeah love to take the big weights when the boys are using the smaller ones mehehehhehe...), rows and chins! Im happy that I managed to do some chins at the end of my session! Very satisfied and in a really good mood (still).
Kcal for Thursday became 1553, 207 g of protein, 24g of carbs and 69g of fat. Satisfied and content! Gotta love it! Ate pretty much as I did yesterday only I had the pre/post workout shakes and I took a few calories (96 to be exact) from dinner and made a protein/ice shake when I got back (and that certainly hit the spot lemmetellya!)
The air-condition in this house is a ducted one, its running on the cooling effect of a fan and cold water, this means that everything smells and feels slightly damp in the morning and its not that great... guess its better than nothing :p but its a tad bit ikky...
Well I guess I should get back to my Dean Koontz book and try to get some sleep!
Excel file for keeping track of your calories

Wednesday, November 11

OOOOH! so excited LOL
I relly want to go visit this restaurant when I move back!
Great information about mealfrequency

Feeling stuffy today cause the weather is really cloggy, I have put my walks back up to an hour again as Izzy really enjoys them an its to hot to go to the beach at night...
Sleeping is poor because of the weather and I recall sleeping less when dieting before. I'll see how it goes later on.
I have found the sweet spot in my eating tho. Increased the fats for lunch and overall (just a bit) and I wasnt hungry at all yesterday.
It looked like this (I have increased the calories to match the extra walking from now on)

Kcal 1494, 189g Protein, 22g Carbs and 70g of Fat.
Breakky at 12 was 200g Salmon with 50g of Greek fetta

Im still so bored but at least the boss isn’t in so I don’t have to look busy… Im in a really good mood still and that fantaboulous haha
Thrilled about my photos too!

Some more interesting reading about BCAA

Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition 2009, 6(Suppl 1):P1
http://www.jissn.com/content/pdf/1550-2783-6-S1-P1.pdf

Background: A randomized, double-blind study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of consuming a supplement containing branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) during an eight-week resistance-training program.
Methods: Thirty-six strength-trained males with a minimum of two years resistance-training experience (25.5 yrs, 177.7 cm, 85.2 kg and 9.3% body fat) were randomly assigned to receive either 14 grams of BCAAs (n = 12), 28 grams of whey protein (n = 12), or 28 grams of carbohydrates from a sports drink (n = 12) while performing an eight-week resistance-training program. Participants followed a periodized, whole-body training program that involved training all major muscle groups once per week using a four-day training split. Subjects body weight, body composition, and 10-rep max on the bench press and squat were determined before and after the eight-week training program. Subjects followed a standardized diet while following the program.

Results:All groups had a 100% compliance with the study protocol. The BCAA group experienced a significantly greater gain in body weight than the whey group (2 ± 1 kg vs. 1 ± 1 kg; p < 0.02) and the carbohydrate group (2 ± 1 kg vs. 1 ± 1 kg; p < 0.01). For lean mass, the BCAA group gained significantly greater lean mass than the whey group (4 ± 1 kg vs. 2 ± 1 kg; p < 0.01) and the carbohydrate group (4 ± 1 kg vs. 1 ± 1 kg; p < 0.01). The whey group also gained significantly more lean mass than the carbohydrate group (2 ± 1 kg vs. 1 ± 1 kg; p < 0.02). BCAA group decreased their percent body fat significantly more than the whey group (2 ± 1% vs. 1 ± 1%; p = 0.039) and the carbohydrate group (2 ± 1% vs. 1 ± 1%; p < 0.01). Muscular strength was significantly greater in the BCAA group on the 10-RM bench press than the whey group (6 ± 3 kg vs. 3 ± 2 kg; p < 0.01) and the carbohydrate group (6 ± 3 kg vs. 2 ± 2 kg; p < 0.01). For the squat, the BCAA group gained significantly more strength on their 10-RM than the whey group (11 ± 5 kg vs. 5 ± 3 kg; p < 0.01) and the carbohydrate group (11 ± 5 kg vs. 3 ± 2 kg; p < 0.01).

Conclusion: Ingestion of a supplement containing BCAAs while following an 8-week resistance training program resulted in a greater decrease in percent body fat, an increase in lean mass, and 10-RM strength gains on the bench press and squat vs. ingestion of a whey supplement or a sports drink. In addition, the ingestion of a whey protein supplement resulted in greater lean mass gains than ingestion of a sports drink

Tuesday, November 10

Considering I was in a really shitty mood yesterday and suffering I am in an excellent mood today LOL I guess thats normal the first couple of days of dieting...
I went to gym yesterday and didn’t want to be there. Had a good session tho and I can really feel it today, went home and had a great veal (SV: ungkalv) stir fry, just fry onion and mushrooms until they are almost done, add your veal and when that’s pretty much done add the spinach (for about 30seconds) mix in your fetta and bobs your uncle!

Skipped the cottage cheese and peanut butter and replaced it with salmon and fetta. The calories (yes I had to much broccoli again) ended up at 1560 protein 207g carbs 34g and fat 63.2g) Woke up at 3 and was hungry.. Suffered thru the night and am sooooo tired… clumsiness has happened to (a bit early so it might just be normal clumsiness) because I smashed a plate – it went absolutely everywhere…
Izzy and I went for a long walk this morning, it was a perfect crisp morning and I brought the camera and a million flies…. Took some great pictures! (yes plenty more but I have to restrain myself)

Quick update
Going on day 2 and so far so good, not hungry or colder than normal. Just bored but that has nothing to do with dieting and everything to do with lack of work… its funny how you get lazy when you have no work or stimuli, I find it hard to motivate myself to do stuff. Ie the ‘work’ I have is reviewing/reading stuff but I just cant get my act together and stay focused… I could also research testing procedures and methodologies (I guess that’s using internet and that’s not allowed tho) and that would be great for the future… 12 weeks till I fly out of here…

Diet day 1

Well, I went to bed and I couldn’t fall asleep and I started to feel hungry and I thought, well Ill have some broccoli to get some fullness in my belly and I soooo shouldn’t have done that… my belly didn’t like it at all and I had a balloon belly and couldn’t sleep then.. Calories went over but since its broccoli it doesn’t count ;) its okay anyway, not that I will do that again LOL fibrous greens you can eat a fair bit of (believe me that’s what I did on the comp diet) I was a bit hungry around 14.00 but that’s because I am eating a little less fat than normally, ill see how this weeks goes and if I still feel hungry around 14.00 ill increase the fats a bit at lunch.
Training went okay considering it was bloody hot and I felt woosy after 30 minutes… well see how it goes today.

Macros
Kcal 1584 / 194g protein, 52g of carbs, 56g of fat.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cottage cheese with peanutbutter... certainly a lot tastier than it looks LOL
Okay having read a bit more I shall put the re-feeds on Mondays since I'm just starting the first refeed will be in a week. It does seem to make more sense to have a higher caloric intake on a day where I train and since shoulders are my "weak spot" I'll do that on Mondays.

Hunger

9-1 Ways to Deal with Hunger on a Diet (ive removed point 7 as i dont want to promote illegal stuff)
the text comeps from Lyle McDonalds site http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/9-ways-to-deal-with-hunger-on-a-diet.html and is a great reed!!!

Diets fail for a lot of reasons but one of the primary ones is simply hunger. I discussed this sort of tangentially in the research review Why Do Obese People not Lose More Weight When Treated with Low-Calorie Diets and one of the comments on that article is what prompted me to write this article.

What is Hunger?
To say that human hunger is complicated is a vast understatement. To cover it in detail would require a series of articles or perhaps an entire book. Research continues to uncover numerous interacting and overlapping hormones (such as leptin, ghrelin, peptide YY, GLP-1 and others) that monitor how much and what someone is eating (along with their body weight) and those all send a signal to the brain that drives a number of processes, not the least of which is hunger.
Now, it would be truly simple if that’s all there was to it but humans also eat/get hungry for non-physiological reasons. We get hungry out of boredom, because we are at a party and it’s expected that we eat, because we just saw a commercial for some food we like and many others.
Simplistically, we might differentiate these different drivers of hunger into physiological and psychological factors although, as I discussed in the article Dieting Psychology vs. Dieting Physiology, the distinction between the two is not only false but increasingly fuzzy. Physiological drives can manifest themselves as ‘psychological’ hunger and psychological factors can affect physiology.
However, even though the distinction is a false one, it is often useful practically to make that division and I”ll be doing so through the rest of that article.

Sufficed to say that human hunger is exceedingly complicated and finding out ways to deal with hunger while dieting is a huge first step in making diets more effective. And with that said, in no particular order of importance, here are 9 Ways to Deal with Hunger on a Diet.

1. Eat More Lean Protein
While dietitians continue to squabble over whether carbohydrates or fats are more filling in the short-term, the data is actually abundantly clear: protein beats them both out. Increasing amounts of research has shown that both acutely and in the long-term, higher protein intakes help blunt hunger. It also helps that, as long as you’re dealing with sources of lean protein (low-fat fish, skinless chicken, even low-fat red meat), it can be tough to get a lot of calories from protein in the first place.
I’d also note that there are many other reasons to consume sufficient amounts of lean protein on a weight loss diet including blood glucose stability and sparing of muscle mass loss. It’s also worth mentioning that a lot of the benefits that are often attributed to ‘low-carbohydrate’ diets have more to do with the increased protein intake; the benefits occur because they are ‘high-protein’.

2. Eat Fruit
For odd reasons fruit has gotten a bad rap for dieting, at least in the athletic and bodybuilding subculture but little could be further from the truth. One aspect of hunger has to do with the status of liver glycogen, when liver glycogen is emptied, a signal is sent to the brain that can stimulate hunger; the corollary is that replenishing liver glycogen tends to make people feel fuller.
The fructose component of fruit works to refill liver glycogen and folks who include a moderate amount of fruit in their weight loss diets often report feeling much less hungry. That’s in addition to the other benefits of fruit (fiber, nutrients). Oh yeah, eat whole fruit, stay away from fruit juice.

3. Eat More Fiber
No list of this sort would be complete without the mention of fiber. Fiber can help with hunger in at least two ways. The first is that the physical ’stretching’ of the stomach is one of many signals about how much food has been eaten; when the stomach is physically stretched the brain thinks you’re full. High-fiber/high-volume foods (e.g. foods that have a lot of volume for few calories) accomplish that most effectively.
Additionally, fiber slows gastric emptying, the rate at which food leave the stomach. By keeping foods in the stomach longer, a high-fiber intake keeps folks full longer. Basically, mom was right, eat your vegetables.

4. Eat (At-Least) Moderate Amounts of Dietary Fat
Ignoring the debate I mentioned above about carbs versus fat and hunger, the simple fact is that exceedingly low-fat diets tend to leave a lot of people hungry in both the short- and long-term. Tying in with my comments about fiber in Number 3, dietary fat also slows gastric emptying (hence the aphorism that high-fat meals really stick to the ribs). While dietary fat does little to blunt hunger in the short-term, moderate intakes tend to keep people fuller longer between meals since the meal sits in the stomach longer.
As well, exceedingly low-fat diets often taste like cardboard, tying into some of the comments I made initially about psychological effects of dieting; people won’t follow a diet that doesn’t taste good for very long. Dietary fat gives food a certain mouth-feel and very low-fat diets remove that, leaving people dissatisfied. The diet usually ends shortly after that.
Research has shown that moderate fat diets improve adherence to dieting and, with rare exceptions, I don’t suggest taking dietary fat much lower than 20-25% of total calories on a fat loss diet. In some cases (such as very low-carbohydrate diets), it may be higher than this.

5. Exercise
I’m hesitant to mention exercise in this article simply because the response to it can vary drastically in terms of hunger control on a diet. Doing the topic justice would take a complete article in and of itself but here I’m going to give a quick overview.
Basically, through myriad overlapping mechanisms, exercise has the potential to increase hunger, decrease hunger or have no effect. Some of the effects are purely physiological. On the one hand, exercise increases leptin transport into the brain which should help some of the other hunger signals work better. On the other hand, some people can get a blood glucose crash with exercise (this is especially true in the early stages of a program) and this can stimulate hunger. Most research suggests that exercise has, if anything, a net benefit in terms of hunger control but it’s even more complicated than that.
Whether or not exercise helps with hunger control ends up interacting with psychological factors that I’m not going to detail here. Some research suggests that people ‘couple’ exercise with their diet. The underlying psychlogy seems to be along the lines of “I exercised today, why would I ruin that by blowing my diet.” That’s good.
However, another category of people often use exercise as an excuse to eat more. The underlying psychology seems to be “I must have burned at least 1000 calories in exercise, I earned that cheeseburger and milkshake.” Of course, since people basically always over-estimate how many calories they burned with exercise, they end up doing more harm than good.
The short-version of this point is this: for some people, regular exercise (and it may not be anything more than a brisk walk) has a profound benefit on keeping them on their diet. And for others it tends to backfire.

6. Consider Intermittent Fasting (IF’ing)
IF’ing is a current dietary trend that, while exact definitions vary, basically refers to a pattern where someone fasts for some portion of the day (perhaps 16-20 hours) and eats most of their food during a short ‘eating period’. Various interpretations are out there but there is emerging research showing a variety of health benefits from this style of eating.
In the context of this article, IF’ing can be particularly valuable for smaller dieters who simply don’t get to eat a lot of food each day. A small female trying to subsist on 1000-1200 calories per day and trying to eat 3-4 times per day is only getting a few small, relatively unsatisfying meals per day.
However, if that same dieter fasts most of the day (many find that hunger goes away after an initial spike in the morning), she can eat 1-2 significantly larger (and more satisfying) meals later in the day.
If you’re interested in IF’ing, I’d direct you to Martin Berkhan’s Leangains.com for the absolute best source of IF information on the net. Martin is currently working on a book on IF’ing and I, for one, can’t wait to see it.

8. Be more Flexible Towards Your Dieting
This is another topic that really deserves a book to fully discuss. I’d say that I need to write that book but the fact is that I already did, the topics I’m going to briefly look at here are discussed in detail in A Guide to Flexible Dieting.
Let me address this topic with a question “What would you do if I told you you could never have something again?” Assume it’s something you like or want, how would you react? Odds are you’d want it that much more, right. It’s human nature, we want what we’re told we can’t have.
Guess what, that’s dieting. Or at least how many dieters approach dieting. Many diets are predicated on some food being bad, off-limits or what have you; dieters go into the diet thinking “I can’t ever eat XXX again in my life” which just makes them want XXX that much more. This is one of the psychological aspects of hunger I mentioned in the introduction.
And, of course, the followup to this is that when dieters do eventually eat XXX (and they will), then they just feel guilty and miserable, figure the diet is blown and eat the entire bag or box of XXX and abandon the diet altogether.
It’s truly a damaging approach to dieting and research has clearly shown that the type of rigid dieter I’m describing above (who expects absolute perfection from their diet or it’s a failure) do worse than more flexible dieters.
The reality is that, within the context of a long-term diet, even small deviations don’t really do much harm (unless the person goes berserk and makes it harmful). That is, say you’re on a diet and you eat a couple hundred calories of cookies because you really wanted them. If you’ve dieted the past 6 days, that’s no big deal. However, if you decide that you are a worthless piece of crap with no willpower and eat another 1000 calories of cookies; well you made it into a problem. Understand?
I always recommend that dieters use strategies like free meals (non-diet meals, preferably eaten out of the house), refeeds (extended periods of deliberate high-carbohydrate over-consumption) and full diet breaks (periods of 10-14 days where the diet is abandoned for maintenance) when they diet. It keeps people from falling into the rigid dieting trap that, invariably, backfires. Again, all of the details can be found in A Guide to Flexible Dieting.

9. Suck it Up or Stay Fat
I want to make it clear that I’m not being facetious with the title of this one; and I’m only being slightly obnoxious. Even if you do everything I talked about above, apply every strategy perfectly, the reality is that you will probably still have some hunger on a diet.
Well…too bad. The simple fact is that losing weight requires eating less than you’re burning and this will, at some point, generate hunger. Now, there are exceptions, extremely overweight individuals often find that they have no appetite in the initial stages of dieting but the reality is that eventually hunger will rear it’s ugly head.
At which point every dieter is faced with a fundamental choice which, put simply is this “What’s more important to me, losing weight, or eating this food?” I’d note that this is also a reason I’m so adamant about the flexible dieting strategies, at least one way of dealing with food cravings is to include them in the diet in a controlled fashion. That way the dieter is controlling the diet, instead of the other way around.
But even with that, hunger is a reality of dieting no matter what else you do. Now, you can try to reframe it (Tom Venuto in his new book suggested telling yourself that “Hunger is fatness leaving the body.”) or you can simply accept it (yes, I know, very Zen) and move on.
But none of that makes the hunger away, it’s just you trying to trick yourself out of feeling bad about it. When that point is reached, there are only two options that I’m going to put very bluntly.
You can suck it up or stay fat.
After you’ve gotten your protein and fruit and fiber and fat and appetite supressants and exercise and flexible dieting strategies down pat, when hunger rears its ugly head, those are the only two options left.
Sunday temperature reached 37 degrees and I crashed on the couch. Not liking this at all. Its suffocating and its because I’m not used to it.. sheeesh… Im still groggy from it.. Absolutely horrendous… and its going to continue for the rest of the week. Reaching 40 (you can add 5 degrees to that) after tomorrow…

Just to make things worse I shall go on a diet for the remaining 6.5 weeks. Just because I have nothing to-do and I need something to think about, read and experiment with. So here it goes..
Starting weight 61kg. (I’ve eaten about maintenance this week but kept the carbs low so I’m not expecting a dramatic drop in weight the first week)
Morning walks will be cut down to 30 minutes due to the heat, its just not nice… and Izzy sufferers too. Ill takes her down to the beach for a swim or something instead…

Training: I shall cut back the training to 4 days.
Mondays shall be shoulders, triceps and abs
Tuesdays Quads and calf’s
Thursday back and biceps
Fridays chest and hamstrings.
Yes a tad bit funny but I just cant do a whole leg day… I will keep the sessions short and low reps.

So my caloric needs (without dieting) will land on 2000 on training days and 1900 on non training days. Yes I know 100 cal for gym might be a bit low but using caloriesperhour.com and putting in for medium strength training as I’m certainly not going to do high intensity training in this weather… gives about 100 calories.
So on training days ill have 1500 calories and non training days 1400.
Macros
Fat: 1g of fat per kg/bw at the minimum so 61g of fat (easy peasy)
Protein: 3g of protein per kg/bw so 183g protein per day
Carbs: Well the rest

Base (I reserve the right to change meals since I might get cravings for salmon or something etc) but keep the macros/caloric content pretty consistent)
Noon: So breakfast or lunch or meal one whatever you want to call it will be 160g of oven baked chicken with salad and 5g of olive oil
Totally 330kcal, 51g of protein, 25 carbs and 10g of fat.

4.15: On workout days ill have 20g of super pump +10g of aminos 5-10 minutes before workout and 10g of aminos after. Ill just remove this on non wo days... and that brings the kcal down...
Totally 100kcal, 20 g protein and 8g carbs and no fat.

5:15: When I arrive at home ill have a meal of around 200g of veal or kangaroo with 100g of low fat fetta a massive mixed bowl of salad.
Totally 540 kcal 71g of protein, 10g of carbs and 22g fat.

6.30-7: A little bit later I’ll have the last meal of the day consisting of 250g cottage cheese with 50g of peanut butter
Totally 530kcal, 42g of protein and 27g of fat and 20g of carbs.

Total of the day will be Kcal 1510, 183g protein, 43g of carbs and 59g of fat.

I will have one day of re-feeding where I keep the calories at maintenance and hammer the carbs with low fat (mainly because I want to know if this actually works and to see what happens)
This will be Saturday’s (I might possibly move this to Mondays as I think they should be on training days but Ill start with Saturday’s)
Macros will be something like 30g of fat, 150g of Protein and 350g of carbs. I’ll get back to the meals and so on later in the week.

What I’m basing this on is mainly from previous discussion about IF and my personal trial with the times of IF – now that I know a bit more about my body and how it responds to eating times… and from bodyrecompositon.com
I’m having the cottage cheese as dairy has been proven to aid in fatloss as well as its very important when you’re a female to keep the calcium (I’m taking supplements as well) levels hight especially on a diet and on a hight protein diet)
I’m keeping the fats fairly high as my body feels better, functions better and keeps the meals more satisfying for longer if I do. It also makes my IF’ng run smoother.
Keeping the protein high is a key thing for maintaining your muscle and feeling fuller for longer.

Re-feeds, well I want to see if it actually works and how boosting the carbs for a short period of time feels and helps my body and workouts and see if it actually aids in fat loss.

6.5 weeks isn’t very long by any means but it will be interesting to see.. so ill keep you updated daily on how I feel, the macros and if I change the meals and so on… Please feel free to comment and give me ideas :)

Sunday, November 8

I did hamstrings and calf's yesterday and I managed to mess up my hands. My skin is soooooo sensitive its stupid... i know its genetics cause my brother gets similar things... very annoying... at least I'm a good healer. I have all these little angry red spots all over my hands where the straps finish. 100kgs hanging in on your wrists isnt very nice lol
Im thinking I might go down a bit in weight and work on my deadlift form instead of being so weight keen...

I also managed to overdo the sun yesterday (Saturday) and I am skipping the picnic todyay, just a tint to red and sore in my skin if that makes sense and its pretty stupid to push it...

Im living on the best ever icy drink, 30g of Horley's chocolate (ICE) whey protein, a bit of cacao, a lot of normal ice and a squrit of sweetner and some water as well as a tinsy bit of Xantam gum (thickener) its sooo nice, the protein powder has a great taste, one of the best and its just sooo nice...

Dinner yesterday was BBQ'd kangaroo with a fetta salad and some mushrooms with fetta on the side. Simple, tasty and summery!!!

Thursday, November 5

Friday! Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sooo bored…
I think ill skip work early today for a couple of hours and go to the gym… stuff it ;) I sorted the house loans out and it seems like I can buy more houses if I can come up with 20% that’s quite interesting… he also reckons that keeping them for 5 years will yield a 50% return  That’s a lot of money!!!
Tomorrow me and Izzy will drive down south and take some photos I think! And on Sunday a picnic on the beach! Yay!!!!!!!!!
Things are starting to die here now. We have had a few days of really hot weather and its very very dry where it was green just a couple of weeks ago… there are also warning signs about brown snakes up… hmmm
Today I’m meeting the bank guy to simplify my loans and all the other stuff.. its only 3 months now and I’m scared and thrilled at the same time if that’s possible…

Wednesday, November 4

Im starting to feel better, my sleeping pattern is better and I feel better in my body. I am starting to get the motivation to go back to the gym and train. Ill keep away for the rest of the week since it cant hurt :D

Today its my beautiful baby sisters birthday! Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You all know that I have been eating according to Intermittent Fasting, however the last couple of weeks I have made the window smaller, 12 (lunch) to 18-19 and its working great. I tend to feel hungry 12 hours after dinner and when I get up and walk and get to work all hunger is gone and I feel good. The warmth issue is better now that I have increased the fats! Still a bit cold around 10ish, regardless of when I have eaten the day before (odd) but a cup of tea sorts that out!

Tuesday, November 3

Now this is interesting

BACKGROUND: Studies of diet and depression have focused primarily on individual nutrients.

AIMS: To examine the association between dietary patterns and depression using an overall diet approach.

METHOD: Analyses were carried on data from 3486 participants (26.2% women, mean age 55.6 years) from the Whitehall II prospective cohort, in which two dietary patterns were identified: 'whole food' (heavily loaded by vegetables, fruits and fish) and 'processed food' (heavily loaded by sweetened desserts, fried food, processed meat, refined grains and high-fat dairy products). Self-reported depression was assessed 5 years later using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies - Depression (CES-D) scale.

RESULTS: After adjusting for potential confounders, participants in the highest tertile of the whole food pattern had lower odds of CES-D depression (OR = 0.74, 95% CI 0.56-0.99) than those in the lowest tertile. In contrast, high consumption of processed food was associated with an increased odds of CES-D depression (OR = 1.58, 95% CI 1.11-2.23).

CONCLUSIONS: In middle-aged participants, a processed food dietary pattern is a risk factor for CES-D depression 5 years later, whereas a whole food pattern is protective.

Not much going on in the land of Nellimite ;)
Missin Jackson still but we are all getting used to it... Haven heard anything so i guess thats good. I'm over the hangover and still nothing at work.
Resting is goooooood :D
Been watching Dollhouse, a tv series that a work collegue has downloaded and I quite like it!

A picture of the new big screen tv's at the gym (took it last week)

Monday, November 2

Ive had a humongous weekend…
On Saturday I drove all the way over to Barossa with Jackson and he met a new family. They where really nice! They did have a beautiful dog and there was a bit of tension but I think they will settle down. They have the same routines as I do and live on the country side. I think he will have a happy forever home there. That being said I do miss him terribly and it’s a big empty hole where he was. Its horrible :( I didn’t think it would be this hard…

After that I went to Maria’s place and we had an awesome dinner, wine and a great time. We went down to the beach at sunset and took some great photos and made a bit of noise :p
After that we got ready to head out and as we where walking down towards Glenelg a bunch of snotty teenage boys runs up behind us and eggs us. It hurt like hell and I have massive bruises on my back. We turned around and went home and cleaned up ourselves and I managed to cut my toe, no idea on what and how… then we went to grand and to highway in. Met up with Jenny and Linda and yes that was it ;) great nigh, just like being 16 again t! Lost my shoes too and never drinking again (ha)
Not 16 now tho as I am still hungover….

I will take this week of training, it has felt like its been time for a while now and the hangover made it an easy decision… I might change my mind later in the week but well see…
