Today I have been a bit creative. Made this years first batch if saffron buns. Im going to Karlstad tomorrow to celebrate my sisters birthday and I wanted to give my granny something and figured that this was a good ide. Im hoping she'll like them :)Saffron buns
1 package of yeast
150g butter
500 deciliter milk
250g quark
3 deciliter sugar
1 g of saffron (finely milled)
1/2 teaspoon salt
17 deciliter flour.
(topping 1 egg and raisins)
Melt the butter and add the milk. When the temperature is 37 degrees add the yeast and whisk until its melted. Add the other ingredients. mix until its a smooth dough. Let sit for 30 minutes. Divide into about 30 pieces and roll them to S shape. Set the oven to 225 degrees and let these buns sit for another 20 minutes. Add one raisin in the twirl of each bun, whisk one egg and brush them lightly. Put them in the oven for 8(?) minutes, I had mine in for double that because they need the nice color.
Delish! and very traditionally Swedish! In Germany, 1600th the devil came as a cat beating naughty kids up and Jesus came as a child, giving out buns to the good kids. A lussebulle is colored yellow with the saffron to keep the devil at bay and isn't originally linked to st Lucia (celebrated mid December in Sweden) but it got spread amongst the Swedish society when we started to celebrate Lucia in the 1800th.
